25 Best Sci-Fi Movies to Stream in 2026 and Where to Watch Them

The best sci-fi movies of 2026, and where to watch them — as recommended by Global Cinephiles on Tribe Chat.

So you want to watch a great science-fiction movie.

Easy enough.

Until you open Netflix. Then Hulu. Then Prime Video. Then HBO Max. Then Disney+. Then someone says they have Paramount+. Someone else remembers Apple TV exists.

Forty minutes later, nobody has actually watched anything.

So we did the annoying part for you.

This guide brings together our favorite sci-fi movies currently streaming across Netflix, Hulu, HBO Max, Prime Video, Disney+, Apple TV and Paramount+.

And one important clarification:

“Best sci-fi movies of 2026” does not only mean movies released in 2026.

This is our guide to the best science-fiction movies you can watch in 2026, including new releases and classics.

Streaming availability changes frequently and can vary by country. The recommendations below are based primarily on U.S. streaming availability checked in October 2026.

1. Project Hail Mary

Where to watch: Prime Video

If you only watch one new science-fiction movie from 2026, this is an excellent place to start.

A man wakes aboard a spacecraft without knowing who he is, why he's there or why nobody else seems to be around.

Unfortunately for him, Earth's future depends on remembering fairly quickly.

It's exactly the sort of big, accessible science-fiction premise we love.

Watch if you like: The Martian, Interstellar, hard sci-fi.

2. Interstellar

Where to watch: Paramount+ / Prime Video

Christopher Nolan sends humanity through a wormhole in search of a new home.

There are distant planets, enormous waves, time dilation, black holes, robots and enough family trauma to power the spacecraft by itself.

Watch if you like: emotional space epics.

3. Dune: Part Two

Where to watch: HBO Max / Prime Video

Arrakis gets considerably more complicated as Paul Atreides joins the Fremen and begins moving toward a destiny that may be terrible for almost everyone involved.

Huge-scale science-fiction filmmaking done properly.

Watch if you like: world-building, politics and sandworms.

4. Ex Machina

Where to watch: Hulu

A programmer is asked to determine whether an advanced humanoid AI is truly conscious.

The AI has questions of her own.

Small cast. Small location. Giant ideas.

Watch if you like: AI, psychological thrillers and arguments about consciousness.

5. The Matrix

Where to watch: Prime Video

Neo discovers that reality isn't quite reality.

Twenty-seven years later, the movie's questions about technology, perception and digital existence haven't exactly become less relevant.

Watch if you like: cyberpunk and kung fu.

6. Arrival

Where to watch: Paramount+

Aliens arrive.

Humanity's best hope isn't a fighter pilot.

It's a linguist.

Arrival takes the alien-contact movie and turns communication itself into the central mystery.

Watch if you like: intelligent, emotional sci-fi.

7. Alien

Where to watch: Prime Video / Disney+

Seven crew members.

One spaceship.

One creature they really should not have let aboard.

Still one of the best combinations of science fiction and horror ever made.

Watch if you like: being stressed for two hours.

8. 2001: A Space Odyssey

Where to watch: HBO Max

Ancient mysteries, space travel, artificial intelligence and one extremely calm computer voice.

You can see its DNA throughout decades of science-fiction films that followed.

Watch if you like: patient, philosophical sci-fi.

9. Blade Runner 2049

Where to watch: Paramount+

Officer K discovers something hidden that threatens the already fragile distinction between human and replicant.

Come for the cyberpunk cityscapes. Stay for the existential dread.

Watch if you like: gorgeous movies where everyone seems lonely.

10. The Empire Strikes Back

Where to watch: Disney+

The rare middle chapter that became more iconic than the movie before it.

Luke trains. Vader hunts. Han makes bad decisions.

Space opera doesn't get much more influential.

Watch if you like: Star Wars at its best.

11. Everything Everywhere All at Once

Where to watch: Hulu

A laundromat owner discovers alternate versions of herself across an apparently limitless multiverse.

This sounds like enormous science fiction.

It is.

It is also somehow a movie about a mother and daughter trying to understand each other.

Watch if you like: weird movies with feelings.

12. Inception

Where to watch: Prime Video

Dream thieves attempt to implant an idea inside someone's mind.

Then the movie puts a dream inside another dream inside another dream and politely assumes you're keeping up.

Watch if you like: puzzles.

13. WALL-E

Where to watch: Disney+

A lonely robot cleans an abandoned Earth until another robot suddenly gives his existence a new purpose.

Cute?

Yes.

Also a story about environmental destruction, consumerism, automation and humanity's future.

Watch if you like: Pixar when it casually destroys you emotionally.

14. Edge of Tomorrow

Where to watch: Paramount+

Fight aliens.

Die.

Wake up.

Repeat.

It takes about five minutes to understand the hook and not much longer to realize how well the movie uses it.

Watch if you like: action movies with clever mechanics.

15. The Thing

Where to watch: Prime Video

Something is loose in an Antarctic research station.

It can perfectly imitate any person it consumes.

Good luck building team morale after that.

Watch if you like: paranoia and practical effects.

16. Predator: Badlands

Where to watch: Hulu

A young Predator cast out by his clan sets off to prove himself while forming an unlikely partnership with an android.

Big alien creatures doing dangerous alien things.

Sometimes that's enough.

Watch if you like: action-forward science fiction.

17. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse

Where to watch: HBO Max

Miles Morales discovers an enormous society of Spider-People protecting the multiverse.

Unfortunately, he and that society disagree on one fairly fundamental point.

Watch if you like: animation that makes your television feel inadequate.

18. Terminator 2: Judgment Day

Where to watch: Paramount+ / Prime Video

The machine is back.

This time it's the good guy.

One of the greatest action sequels ever made also happens to be a story about artificial intelligence, time travel and whether humanity can prevent its own destruction.

Watch if you like: action classics.

19. Alien: Romulus

Where to watch: Hulu

A group of young colonists enters an abandoned space station and encounters something significantly worse than whatever they expected to find there.

The movie brings Alien back toward horror without abandoning modern blockbuster scale.

Watch if you like: xenomorphs and bad decisions in space.

20. The Gorge

Where to watch: Apple TV

Two elite snipers stationed on opposite sides of a mysterious gorge are ordered to stop whatever is inside from getting out.

Then things get weird.

Watch if you like: action, romance, monsters and genre mashups.

21. Finch

Where to watch: Apple TV

Tom Hanks, a robot and a dog travel across a ruined America.

That sentence either immediately sells you or it doesn't.

Watch if you like: gentle post-apocalyptic sci-fi.

22. Jurassic Park

Where to watch: Hulu / Prime Video

Scientists resurrect dinosaurs.

One man repeatedly points out why this is probably not an amazing idea.

Nobody listens.

Chaos ensues.

Watch if you like: perfect blockbuster construction.

23. Stalker

Where to watch: HBO Max

Three men journey into a mysterious place known as the Zone, where reality behaves differently and a hidden room may grant a person's deepest desire.

Not exactly Friday-night popcorn material.

But for philosophical science fiction, few movies go deeper.

Watch if you like: Tarkovsky and staring meaningfully into the distance afterward.

24. Palm Springs

Where to watch: Hulu

Two wedding guests become trapped in a time loop.

Instead of immediately saving humanity, they mostly try to figure out what exactly you're supposed to do when tomorrow no longer exists.

Watch if you like: comedy, romance and time-loop movies.

25. Hoppers

Where to watch: Disney+

Human consciousness can now be transferred into robotic animals.

Which is naturally an excellent excuse for Pixar to send its protagonist into the animal world and ask some surprisingly big questions underneath the comedy.

Watch if you like: family sci-fi.

How We Picked These Movies

There are plenty of websites capable of dumping hundreds of science-fiction titles onto a page. But that isn't particularly useful.

Our list prioritizes movies we'd actually recommend to another sci-fi fan, balancing classics, newer releases, different subgenres and movies that are currently easy to stream.

Streaming catalogs also change constantly, which is why we date our guides and update them as titles move between platforms.
