Netflix added a batch of horror and horror-adjacent movies on Nov 1, and 3 more are scheduled for mid-month. Halloween is over, but that is exactly when the scary movie shelf tends to get quiet, so it helps to know what is actually streaming now and what is coming. This guide covers only titles that Netflix or the major Netflix trackers confirmed this week.
The picks come from a What's on Netflix list of November arrivals published Nov 4 and Netflix's own Tudum page for new November titles. Licenses rotate and catalogs differ by region, so check the title page in your app before you plan the evening.
The list is short on purpose. I left out anything I could not confirm as current, and the sections below split what is streaming now from what arrives later in the month so your group chat can plan a marathon.
Horror movies streaming on Netflix now
Four titles arrived on Nov 1, and all four appeared in the movie Top 10 on the What's on Netflix Nov 1 chart, which is good evidence that they are available and getting watched.
Insidious: Chapter 2 (2013)
James Wan directed this sequel, in which the Lambert family must uncover a childhood secret to escape a spirit that has not let go. It works best if you have seen the first film, which arrives later this month.
Insidious: Chapter 3 (2015)
Leigh Whannell directed this one, according to Heaven of Horror's November guide. What's on Netflix calls it a prequel in which the psychic Elise Rainier helps a teenager targeted by a malevolent entity. Because it is a prequel, it can stand a little more on its own than Chapter 2.
Resident Evil (2002)
Paul W.S. Anderson directed this adaptation, which stars Milla Jovovich. Alice wakes inside an Umbrella facility overrun by the undead. Netflix's Tudum page lists it as a borderline horror pick, and it leans toward action, so set expectations before you pitch it as a scary night.
Resident Evil: Apocalypse (2004)
Alice and Jill Valentine try to escape a zombie outbreak in Raccoon City. It arrived Nov 1 alongside the original, so the pair works as a double feature for groups that like their horror loud.
Horror movies arriving on Netflix this month
Three more titles are scheduled for the middle of November, based on the same What's on Netflix list and a Screen Rant roundup of November streaming horror. Dates can shift, so confirm them close to the day.
Insidious (2010) arrives Nov 15
James Wan directed this original, which stars Patrick Wilson and Rose Byrne. A comatose boy's consciousness is trapped in a shadowy dimension, and his parents try to bring him back. It is the natural starting point for the whole series.
Smile (2022) arrives Nov 15
Parker Finn directed this film, and Sosie Bacon stars. A therapist is haunted by a grinning entity after a disturbing encounter with a patient. It lands the same day as Insidious, so the 15th is a good date to plan a double bill.
Obsession (2025) arrives Nov 17
Curry Barker directed this movie, with Inde Navarrette and Michael Johnston starring. A man breaks a One Wish Willow to win his crush, and the wish carries a dark price. It is the newest title on this list, so it is the one most likely to start a conversation in your group chat.
How to plan a scary movie night with a group chat
Most groups need a plan before the first title starts, because horror nights tend to drift once the lights go down. Settle the order, the snacks and the stopping time while the chat is still active, and the evening runs much more smoothly.
Horror is the hardest genre to schedule for a group, because everyone has a different tolerance. The easiest fix is to ask for a number between 1 and 5 for how scary each person wants the night to be, then pick the title that fits the lowest number. Nobody ends up watching through their fingers, and nobody feels dragged along.
A weekend lineup can follow release order. Start with Insidious on Nov 15, continue with Chapter 2 and finish with Chapter 3, which gives you a connected story across 3 films. If your group prefers variety, pair a supernatural title such as Smile with a louder pick such as Resident Evil.
Agree on the ground rules in the chat before the night starts. Decide whether phones stay in a basket, whether subtitles are on, and who has veto power over the next film. Our guide on group chat etiquette covers how to keep those conversations friendly, and the Halloween group chat names post has name ideas if you want a spooky thread for the marathon.
